Nicolas Economou

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Nicolas Economou is the chairman and CEO of H5. In addition to being responsible for H5's overall corporate strategy and operations, he advises general counsels' offices and leading law firms on the design and execution of review and analysis processes for litigation, compliance, and information retention management. Mr. Economou contributes actively to advancing public dialogue on public policy challenges at the intersection of law, science, and technology. Working with Harvard Law Professor Arthur R. Miller and Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Economou led the design of a seminal public policy, law, and technology summit in March 2007, where he spoke alongside Justice Stephen Breyer. His speaking engagements include legal and public policy presentations at venues such as Stanford Law School, as well as gatherings of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is the published author of a number of articles on issues relating to information risk management, technology, and the practice of law. Mr. Economou directs H5's participation as a member of The Sedona Conference's Electronic Document Retention and Production Working Group. He has also served on both corporate and non-profit boards. Mr. Economou holds a B.A. in international public law and political science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and an M.B.A. in finance from the Wharton School of Business.

Jeff Kangas

Executive Managing Director

Jeff Kangas leads H5's Professional Services Group, which provides services that enable corporate legal offices and law firms to more effectively manage their large-scale document review and document management initiatives. Mr. Kangas brings over 14 years of experience, both in managing client service organizations, and in providing advisory and consulting services to public and private corporations, law firms, and government agencies. He has consulted on document discovery strategies for large, complex cases, including major securities fraud, antitrust, and product liability cases, and has spoken at industry conferences on electronic discovery. Prior to joining H5, Mr. Kangas was a manager and consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Kangas earned a B.S. in business administration from Bucknell University and has studied at the Wharton School of Business.

Eoin Beirne

Executive Managing Director

Eoin Beirne leads H5’s operations and technology groups, managing the design, development and deployment of H5’s technology systems to enable clients to derive meaningful organization of voluminous data collections. He has extensive experience in investigative, technology, and litigation consulting, specializing in complex data management and analysis and the application of technology to large-scale information management matters. Before joining H5, Mr. Beirne was a manager in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he consulted for public and private companies on M&A transactions in the technology sector, transaction-related accounting due diligence, transaction pricing disputes, and other contractual issues. Mr. Beirne holds a B.A. in business administration with concentrations in accounting and philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.

Steve Whitehurst

Executive Managing Director

As head of H5’s Global Practice Management team, Steve Whitehurst leads all aspects of the company's practice management and consulting services, focusing on new market expansion and strategic operations. Mr. Whitehurst brings more than 20 years of experience in managing operations, client services, marketing, and product delivery in the technology sector to H5. Prior to joining H5, Mr. Whitehurst was senior vice president and general manager at McKesson Corporation, a Fortune 20 company and the nation’s leading healthcare IT company. At McKesson, he led the life sciences–laboratory solutions and automation businesses, where he focused on new market expansion and the development of a next-generation laboratory information system, including genomics. Mr. Whitehurst received his B.A. from St. Mary's College.

Robert S. Bauer, Ph.D.

Chief Technology Officer

CTO Bob Bauer has over 30 years of leadership in turning innovative technologies into strategic advantages. Dr. Bauer is the former vice president and founding CTO of Xerox Global Services. He joined Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in its inaugural year of 1970. On PARC senior staff, he led the System Sciences Laboratory and created PARC’s Advanced Systems Development lab. These organizations delivered socio-technical innovations that leveraged deep understanding of how people can better manage increasing amounts of information in the workplace. He has incubated and helped create many companies that leverage innovative technologies that help businesses be more productive. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and has been an advisor for the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Foundation, UNESCO, and the federal Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Homeland Security. Dr. Bauer earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Salil Durani

Managing Director of Information Technology

As managing director of IT, Salil Durani leads the design and development of H5’s global IT strategy, enterprise architecture, and internal business systems. His responsibilities include security, production operations, and support for all client applications. Mr. Durani has over 27 years’ experience building and maintaining enterprise business applications in startup as well as Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining H5, he served as senior director of global IT applications at Oracle Corporation and as group director of IT applications operations at Siebel Systems. Previously, Mr. Durani worked in various IT and engineering management roles in a number of startups in the San Francisco Bay Area including myCFO, Marimba, and Gupta Corporation. He has a B.S. in engineering from BITS, Pilani, India, and an M.S. in computer science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Mr. Durani has presented IT best practices at Siebel and Oracle User Weeks. He has also presented ITIL-based change management process at Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA).

Ricky Datta

Director of Engineering

As director of engineering, Ricky Datta manages the planning, design, development, and deployment of the proprietary software tools that power H5’s document review and analytic systems. His expertise includes building extremely large data-driven business applications, business process automation software, and datacenter software. Most recently, Mr. Datta was director of engineering at DirecTV Corporation. Mr. Datta has 21 years of experience in various engineering roles including previous engagements at Symantec Corp., Compaq Corp., and several startups. He earned his bachelor of technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.

Teresa Jade

Director of Technology and Development

Teresa Jade leads H5's Linguistic Technology, Research and Implementation, and Corpus Analysis Groups, which configure and create solutions to provide leading-edge information risk management services. Leveraging her training as a linguist, she developed processes of conceptual and linguistic modeling for H5 that produce custom configurations of H5’s software for each client to replicate expert judgments in a variety of domains. Ms. Jade specializes in corpus analysis, lexicon development, grammar development, process and system architecture, and discourse analysis. Before joining H5, Ms. Jade was a computational linguist at Discern Communications, an SRI International spinoff, where she worked to create a marketable question-answering system. Ms. Jade has extensive expertise in innovatively blending information extraction and information retrieval approaches to solve problems in natural language processing. Ms. Jade earned a B.A. with honors from Tennessee Technological University. She holds two M.A. degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington in German and in linguistics with emphases in computational linguistics and discourse analysis.

Lisa Galloway Paine

Director of Engagement Management

Lisa Galloway Paine leads H5's Engagement Management Group, which manages H5's overall delivery of professional services to Fortune 500 companies and their law firms. At H5, she has consulted with clients on large scale document reviews for a range of securities class action and antitrust matters. Ms. Paine has over 11 years of management consulting experience working with Fortune 500 and middle market companies. She has extensive experience in business process improvement, requirements and engagement management, and information and technology risk management. Ms. Paine has also consulted with local governmental entities to implement transformational customer relationship programs in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining H5, Ms. Paine was a manager with Deloitte Consulting in Strategy & Operations. Ms. Paine obtained her B.S. in business administration at the University of Colorado.
